Hinduism has a lot of undiscovered secrets. Some of these have been lost in the transition from one generation to the other, as the knowledge known to the earlier generations was not transferred to the subsequent generations. The rishis of the ancient times had great knowledge about different sciences. They knew the healing powers of several herbs found in the forests; they could predict the weather by merely studying the sun, sky and the stars and planets in the sky; they knew the secrets of living a long life etc. The motive of this blog is to reveal some such secrets, which have always been a part of Hinduism.

In the last article we described the proportions of potential and kinetic energy in the second stage i.e. the world inhibited by the demi-gods.

Following is the continuation of the same:

In DEVALOKAM, the motion is uniform. This implies, the velocity of the moving objects is uniform.

i.e. in KE= ½ mv², the velocity 'v' remains uniform.

Let us now understand the meaning of the sentence,

‘UNTIL IT IS FORCED BY SOME EXTERNAL FORCE’ in a spiritual terminology.

This external force, which disturbs the uniform motion, is described as “ASURA” (devil). These devils create an imbalance. In Hinduism, this imbalance is described as WAR between DEVA and ASURA. Thus an imbalance in the uniform motion in scientific terms is the war that happens between the good and the evil or between the devas (demi-gods) and the asuras (devils).

As per law, TE should be constant always. At the end of war, the equilibrium is achieved. Thus the total energy remains constant.

The story of DEVALOKAM is full of pity. This is because there is a lot of volatility at this level as far as the quantum of potential and kinetic energies is concerned. The quantum of both the forms of energy is continuously swinging here. The potential energy gets converted to kinetic energy when the uniform motion in this world is disturbed by devils who challenge the demi-gods for a war. The potential state of the demi-gods then gets converted to kinetic energy as the war starts. At the end of the war again the kinetic energy is converted into potential energy. Also, the devas have to constantly keep a watch on the pull exerted on them by the ground (g). They have to maintain their high altitude (position) obtained by earning of many good virtues (punyam). Else, they would be pulled down to the third stage i.e. the world of the mortals (human beings). They can also get elevated to the higher world (first stage) provided they are successful in increasing their potential energy and decreasing the kinetic energy. This is possible through penance.

So to summarise, the potential energy here is alternative. The kinetic energy is imbalanced by unwanted enemy forces.

On one side gravitation pulls the Deva to the earth. On the other side, the Asura imbalances the KE by disturbing the velocity of the Deva.

Thus the position of demi-gods is like that of a person sitting on a see-saw. They may go up or fall down.

Dear Readers,

Radhekrishna!

In this article, we describe the second stage (intermediate stage) which is inhibited by the devas or demi-gods. We will look at the proportions of potential and kinetic energy at this altitude. In the first stage, we understood that the potential energy is infinite whereas the kinetic energy is nil. Let us see that in this stage, what is the case.

The intermediate stage, Devalokam.

PE = mgh, and KE = ½mv²

In this stage, the 3 variables namely m, g, v have a role i.e. unlike in the first stage where mass ‘m’ was negligible, velocity ‘v’ had no role and gravitational pull ‘g’ was nil, here, in this stage, all these variables have values.

Let us see how this statement

TE = mgh + ½mv² = a constant, is true in this stage.

In this stage, the crucial role is played by g = gravitational acceleration. It is the force exerted by the earth that pulls everything towards it. Gravitational acceleration pulls the body from heaven to the ground.

Velocity, ‘v’ represents movement, since here, in Devalokam, movement takes place.

PE = mgh, where m = mass, g = gravitational acceleration, h = height.

‘m’ represents body mass. The Devas possess a comparatively high value of energy over human beings in the context of mass. ‘m’ has a high value in this stage. ‘h’ represents height from ground to Devalokam.

The gravitation force pulls the body, (Deva) from heaven to ground.

Let us take a scientific example to understand all this:

The rockets that are sent to outer space should have the energy to overcome the gravitational pull exerted by the earth (‘g’). Only when they cross the influence of ‘g’, they can orbit in the sky without falling back to the earth. Once this energy gets exhausted, the rockets cannot remain in space; they fall on the ground.

The same is applicable to the Devas. Once the account of punyam (virtues) gets exhausted, they lose their energy. Once they lose their energy, the gravitation pulls them back to the earth.

Potential energy at the intermediate stage:

Here PE= mgh is different than what it was in the first stage. In the first stage, height was infinite and hence, PE was infinite. But in this stage, height is finite, and gravitational force ‘g’ is also present. Mass is also finite here (in the first stage it was negligible.)

In Devalokam, the PE=>mgh oscillates.

The ‘g’ pulls the DEVA to ground. The Deva tries very hard to hold on to the potential energy (PE) that he possesses to come out of the trap of ‘g’.

Kinetic energy at the intermediate stage.

Coming to the kinetic energy,

KE= ½ mv².

V= velocity of object. Velocity is judged by motion.

Here, another scientific law; ‘a law of motion’ comes into picture

It goes thus: ‘‘every inanimate body continues in its state of rest or of uniform motion along a straight line, unless it is acted upon by an external unbalanced force”.

Below is the break up of the key words from the above statement.

1. State of rest = Ground (P.E.)

2. Uniform motion

3. UNTIL IT IS FORCED BY SOME EXTERNAL FORCE.

Radhekrishna! We discussed the terms Potential energy and Kinetic energy in our previous article. We explained to you these two terms in ‘spiritual terminology.’ We continue with our explanations in this article also.

A body (mass) can have three stages. levels on the basis of height (altitude)

1. In the sky

2. Intermediate

3. On the earth i.e. (Ground level)

DIAGRAM 2:

Total energy = Potential energy + Kinetic energy

i.e. TE = PE + KE

= mgh + ½mv²

remains constant at any point in time in all the three stages viz.

1. The sky

2. Intermediate

3. Ground.

The first stage (sky) includes the upper worlds of Vaikuntham,

The intermediate stage includes Devalokam, (the world of demi-gods) and

The ground level is represented as Bhoolokam. (the world of we human beings)

Let us discuss the proportions of potential and kinetic energy in each of the above stages, one by one. Let us find out that at every level (altitude) if the total energy is 100% then out of this 100% how much percent if potential energy and how much percent is kinetic energy.

State 1 : Sky

The sky is boundless. One does not know where the sky actually ends. The fact is that there is no end to the height of sky.

In the sky, h (height) = infinity.

So in the upper worlds, the proportion of potential energy is highest whereas kinetic energy is nil.

With the means of scientific formulae, this can be explained as under:

potential energy = mgh,

where mass (m) is negligible and height (h) is infinite.

In the sky, the gravitational pull exerted by the earth, which pulls everything towards the earth, is nil owing to the high altitude. It has no effect in the formula PE = mgh

So, PE = mg x infinity

= infinity

KE = ½mv², where v = velocity of light.

In the sky, ‘m’ is negligible and velocity ‘v’ has no role to play since there is no movement in the sky. So v² has no impact. Therefore, KE = 0.

Thus it can be concluded that

In the sky, TE = infinite PE + 0. (Where KE = 0).

The person who possesses such immense potential energy is given a very high position in the upper worlds.

So in the upper worlds various posts are given depending on the hierarchy of PE (potential energy).

At the apex (top most level) of this hierarchy of the upper worlds, is the abode of Lord Shri Krishna which is called Vaikuntham. Lord Krishna is the caretaker of one and all. Below him are the various forms of Lord Krishna such as Brahma, the creator; Vishnu, the maintainer and Shiva, the destroyer. Their worlds are Brahmalokam, Vishnulokam and Rudralokam. These forms have been assigned their respective duties and are hence they are a subset of Lord Krishna.

We will look at the remaining stages in our forthcoming articles as regards the extent or proportion of potential and kinetic energy at those stages.

Till then do continuous chanting by just surrendering yourself at the lotus feet of Lord Shri Krishna. Total Surrender (sharanagathi) is one of the most important messages which is spread to everyone by our beloved Gurujiamma. She has always stressed the importance of shedding one's ego and surrendering to Lord Krishna.

We continue with our explanation on the scientific law of conservation of energy. In this issue we will explain you the terms ‘potential energy’ and ‘kinetic energy’ in both scientific and spiritual ways.

Scientific law says, “The total energy remains constant always “. The two forms of energy are potential energy and kinetic energy.

Potential Energy is the energy possessed by virtue of its position. An example would be water stored in a dam. This water if allowed to flow and fall from a height is capable of producing electricity. But when stored in a dam, it has potential energy.

Kinetic Energy is the energy acquired through motion. An example would be an arrow released from a bow. Due to its motion, it has energy which hurts the person or the object at which it is aimed.

Total Energy = Sum of potential energy and Kinetic energy.

Let us call Total Energy = TE, Potential Energy = PE, Kinetic Energy =KE.

Hence, TE = PE + KE.

PE = mgh, where, m = mass, g = gravitation force, h = height.

KE = mv², where, m = mass, v² = velocity of light.

As per law TE = PE + KE => TE = mgh + mv²

i.e. mgh + 1/2mv² remains constant always.

These two forms of energy can be directly correlated to hinduism in the following manner:

The two corresponding forms of potential and kinetic energy are

1) SHIVA and 2) SHAKTI respectively.

Among the three qualities ‘Sattva’ (goodness), ‘Rajas’ (passion) and ‘Tamas’ (ignorance), Shiva represents the quality of ignorance. Brahma represents the quality of passion. Vishnu represents the quality of goodness.

Shiva represents “IDLENESS”. People describe a person who is very lazy by saying, “He sits idle just as SHIVA”. Prima Facie, he (Shiva) just sits idle (But actually he does meditation).

Shiva is considered to have a lot of potential energy. His divine abode is very high, above in the sky. Shiva corresponds to the entire potential energy which is given by P.E. = mgh

The counter part of SHIVA, SHAKTI represents movement i.e. K.E. (kinetic energy)

KE = 1/2mv². m= mass, v = velocity.

When a body moves from rest, it will be moving with a velocity v.

m=mass of the body. KE comes only when the body is in motion.

“SAKTHI” represents movement. “SAKTHI” acquires her energy by means of motion.

Shakti corresponds to the entire kinetic energy, which is given by

K.E. = 1/2mv².

To summarise:

PE = Potential energy = mgh = energy by position = SHIVA = IDLE (sitting)

KE = Kinetic energy = 1/2mv² = energy by motion = SHAKTI = MOVEMENT (motion).

The total energy = PE + KE.

Thus SHIVA and SHAKTI are equally powerful. One half of the total energy is SHIVA while the other half is SHAKTI.

They represent the two sides of the coin, i.e. of the total energy namely PE and KE.

So dear readers, this was a description of potential and kinetic energy with ‘a touch of Hinduism.’

We will continue our article on the law of conservation of energy in this article. All of you must be curious to know the explanation of the diagram, which was presented in the last article. Your curiosity ends here because we present that explanation in this article.

Coming to the explanation of the diagram.

‘m’ represents the mass of body.(dead body). We call it as body mass index (b.m.i).

In the diagram, ‘A’ represents the starting point and ‘B’ represents the ending point.

A = New born baby B = Death

V--- represents the path from A to B. (birth to death)

---V represents the path from B to A. (death to Rebirth)

Thus the cycle of birth and death continues.

If v represents soul i.e. source of all energy, then it should have some dependency over m (mass) i.e. the body.

According to Hinduism, the soul is represented as ‘JYOTHI SWAROOPAM’ (LIGHT FORM). The soul disappears from one body and reappears in another body.

Now come to E = mc².

m= mass ‘m’ represents the mass of dead body.

C² = velocity of light.

The ‘JYOTHI SWAROOPAM’ (soul) moves from one body to another. The cycle of birth and death continues. This moving of the soul from one body to another body corresponds to the scientific term of energy transfer. In Hinduism this movement of the soul is defined as ‘Samasara’. Literally it means leading one’s life, one birth after the other continuously. And since the number of births that one undergoes is countless; till one attains salvation (moksha), this goes on. Thus concept of energy transfer can very well account for the “SAMSARA” concept.

Hence it is said that avoid the Samasara Sagara and attain moksha i.e. avoid the continuous and repetitive cycle of birth and death by attaining salvation. This is only the real purpose of human life. This has always been propogated in Hinduism. Because samasara is like an ocean (sagara). It has no limits. If one wants to escape from the samsara sagara the only way out is to make use of this birth of a human being by doing continuous chanting of the 'radhekrishna namam' to attain moksha.

So dear readers, don’t you feel that the scientific laws have been already described in Hinduism since time immemorial? Yes its very true! There is no doubt about it.

Dear Readers,

Radhekrishna! In the last article, we presented you an illustrative example with scientific and spiritual reasoning as to what is the importance of going to a temple and worshipping the idol of God. It seems so fascinating isn’t it? To be frank nobody has this thinking when one goes to a temple that by doing so he would be receiving immensely powerful positive radiations from the idol that he/she is worshipping!! One scales the steps of a temple when he/she is in trouble!! Otherwise who bothers to even think about God?

There is a feeling that whatever good is happening is happening because of our own efforts and whatever bad is happening is a result of God’s wrath and his merciless nature!!

What logic is this? Unconceivable isn’t it? But it is to be remembered that whatever is happening with us is the best for us and it is happening only because of His wish.

Coming to our this weeks article, its not a continuation of our last article. This time we are presenting before you a topic on which there have been articles written previously on our blog. That topic is the ‘Law of Conservation of Energy’. We bring you a spiritual explanation of Einstein’s formula E=mc² and explanations related to this law with a spiritual reasoning’s.

Energy can neither be created nor be destroyed. Energy disappearing in one form reappears in another.

The above is the law pertaining to energy.

The same verse is explained in Hinduism, through the word Athma (soul). The soul can neither be created, nor destroyed. The soul disappearing in one form reappears in another form.

Hinduism lays a strong foundation onto the concept of rebirth. According to Hinduism, every human being has to take many births. At one point of time, the soul attains salvation. Our body is decomposable. But the inner soul remains immortal. The body functions through some source of energy. We absorb energy from outside sources (remember our last article on idols which are a source of energy?). The energy is stored in the body. The energy stored in the body helps in bodily movements. The body changes from the state of child to the state of oldness. Finally the body becomes dead. In Hinduism, death is treated as transfer of energy. The soul (energy) disappears from one body. This disappearance is treated as death, in the worldly context. The soul enters into another body. It reappears in the form of a newborn child. This is treated as birth. So the cycle of birth and death continues on and on.

Energy disappearing from one form

(The soul leaving the body)

=> Death

Energy reappearing in another form

(The soul entering a new body)

=> Birth

The second chapter of Gita emphasizes on this concept of the immortal nature of the soul and the mortal nature of the body. It says as follows:

The soul cannot be destroyed. It cannot be destroyed by weapons or be burnt by fire. It cannot be drowned by water, nor can it be dried in air. It cannot be vaporized. The source of energy remains absolute and cannot be destroyed. This absolute form of energy is described as immortal soul.

The body is non-living. The soul represents the source of life. The scientific law says:

E = mc², where ‘m’ represents mass. ‘c²’ represents velocity of light.

The energy depends on two variables namely mass and velocity of light.

The importance of dark coloured idols

Dear Readers,

Radhekrishna!!! All those who feel that religion is outdated, superstitious, not backed by logical reasoning, please think again. It cannot happen that people keep following certain set of princilples, practises, rules, regulations, methods in leading their lifes for generations together!! please give this a thought. The next time you are told to drink milk mixed with turmeric or told to get tulsi leaves, please make it a point to atleast ask why it is to be done before refusing to do the same. These traditional methods are very effective for curing illnesses. You all will come to know about this knowledge only if you ask your elders about it. These methods are much more effective than the green, red, blue n yellow pills given by doctors. Radhekrishna! And all these are a part of the 'traditional' and 'ever existing' science known as 'HINDUISM'

In the last article our focus was on why the idols should be dark i.e. black in colour. We explained the scientifc reasoning related to the architecture of the hindu temples and the theory of light waves, colours and their properties. In this article we will tell you the spiritual part of performing rituals in the temple.

The idols are kept in dark room. The room inside the temple where the idol is being kept is called as GARBHA GRUHAM. Usually this place will be very narrow. It will have space for only one person. The place remains usually dark. In the GARBHA GRUHAM, on the roof one can see a pyramid shaped erection. This means the idol is kept inside the pyramid. According to science, any object that is kept within the pyramid will have high reverberating and resonating power. Now the idol is kept within the pyramid. So it will have high reflecting powers.

All of us today, use cell phones. They have become the latest 'craze' of the youngsters. The youngsters are wasting a lot of their valuable time in chatting with their friends using the cell phone and sending sms's. These things they will easily do even though they donot know the scientific part as to how the cell phones work. Here not a single youngster will say no! I want to know how a cell phone works! before he actually starts using a cell phone. The moment he gets the phone, he'll start using it! Then why the partiality in following traditional principles without objecting?

Anyways coming back,

The signals from the cell phones are transmitted in cosmos. We use receiving towers to receive the signals. The light radiations reverberate in the cosmos. The light radiations of all the 7 colours of VIBGYOR flows continuously in the cosmos.

The temples that are designed as per the vedic terms behave as towers in receiving these light radiations. The idols are kept in dark. The idols are made in black colour to symbolize darkness. Through the pyramid shaped erection, the light radiations of VIBGYOR enter the idol. The idol fully absorbs the light radiations of VIBGYOR. It reflects nothing. So it remains black in colour. It means the idols are filled with full of positive light radiations of VIBGYOR.

Each light radiation has a unique relevance towards healing of our bodily ailments (diseaes). The idols kept inside the pyramid, absorbs all the positive radiations. As it is kept inside the pyramid, it has high amount of reverberating and resonating power. The black idols are vibrant (full of energy) and they unanimously announce their supremacy over other colours.

Now upto this stage, a source of all positive radiations is described as temple. The temple and the pyramid shaped erection receives the positive radiations from the cosmos. The idols behave like a receptor and they absorb all the radiations. Everything is stored.

What can we do with the stored energy?

It needs to be utilized for the mankind.

Here comes the role of worship. {A PURE FORM OF UTILIZATION OF COSMIC ENERGY, FOR THE WELFARE OF MANKIND}

A person [devotee] is allowed inside the Garbha Gruham. The Aachaarya (The Spiritual Master) lights a small lamp. He shows the idol to the devotee. Here comes the scientific theory of light radiations.

The idols is black. The lamp is representing the white colour. The excess absorbed light energy in the form of black colour, goes through the pathway of lamp, which is represented as white colour. The lamp act as a focusing lens.

According to the theory of light radiation, when a source emits a positive radiation and if it is suitably focused towards the thitting object, and if the distance between the object and the source are suitably adjusted means, then the object can receive very high amount of radiation. In the same way, as per Hinduism, the distance between the idol and the devotee are suitably calculated to maximize the utility of the light radiations. This type of vedic scientific calculations are found in the Aagama Shaasthram. The temples are built as per the principles of Aagama Shaasthram.

This means, the devotee who is at the exact focal centric point of receiving the light radiations from the idol receives maximum benefit.

The signal from cosmos goes to the receiving towers. From the towers, they are broad casted to the respective Televisions or computer peripherals. From television or computer, the user sees the picture. The same theory of telecommunications can be applied to temples and idols.



The Devotee can absorb the positive radiations of light energy. Now, Science has accepted the healing power of light energy. We make use of it, in the form of Scan, X – Ray, ECG, etc., There also one can see that, only black and white dominates. The background is black. The picture is white. In the same way, the idol is black. The lamp behaves as white. The devotee receives the positive vibrations of light energy.

This is just minute form of explanation, on the aspect of theory of light waves. More to come on the upcoming issues.

The importance of dark coloured idols

Dear readers,

In this article we present a very interesting topic to you. The topic can be described as 'colourful', in one word!! yes, its something very different from the topics on which the articles were based so far.

One thing which people nowadays are opposed to is the habit of going to a temple and worshipping God. They have an opinion that going to a temple and worshipping God is not the right way of worship. Such people think that idol worship should not be practised and that its of no use to have blind belief in an idol. But dear readers, if such a method has been prescribed in the evergreen 'Hinduism' then surely there has to be a strong, valid and logical reason behind the same. So lets take you to the world of colours and explain the significance of worshipping the idols in a temple.

As we normally do, first we will give you the scientific reason behind the practice and then the spiritual aspect of the same.

IDOLS- DARK COLOUR

Inside a temple, the idols of God are usually black in colour. Why was the colour 'black' chosen? You may think that why of all colours black? a colour which is less popular especially when there are such nice colours like pink, green, blue etc? But then, there exists a very important reason for the same.

In the colour spectrum, one can see that there are 7 colours. It is represented as VIBGYOR viz Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red. In the colour spectrum Violet starts from the lower end and the Red colour occupies the highest position as per the emnating light radiation frequency.

The other two colours, which constitute our life are White and Black. According to theories of light radiation, white and black does not constitute any specific colour among 7 colours namely VIBGYOR.

A light wave hitting at an object can have one among the seven colours of VIBGYOR. When a light wave hits an object, the object absorbs some light radiations and the object reflects back some light radiations. Those light radiations which gets reflected to space, gives the colour to the object.

For e.g., when a light wave hits an object and if the object absorbs 6 colours among VIBGYOR and if it reflects only V=violet colour means, then the object will appear violet to the external eye. The same theory goes well with the remaining theory too.

Supposing, if an object reflects all the incoming light radiations means, i.e. if the object reflects all the 7 colours of VIBGYOR means then the object will appear WHITE coloured to the external eyes.

Supposing if the object absorbs all the incoming light radiations means, i.e. if the object absorbs all the 7 colours of VIBGYOR means then the object will appear (DARK) BLACK coloured to the external eyes.

WHITE= Reflection of all rays.

BLACK= Absorbing of all rays.


Using these scientific facts to an advantage its possible to reap a lot of benefits by worhipping an idol in a temple. How, u ask? Wait for our next issue for the answer!!!

Hinduism is a great ocean. No one knows the limit of it. If u have any question abt anything, there is a answer in hinduism. The so called great 'science', is there in hinduism. Nowadays people are giving much importance to the science. Nothing wrong in that. But people are thinking that there is no science in the hindu Upanishadhs and puranaas. Its a wrong mental attitute. Otherwise its an ignorance of the people who dont know the real depth of the sacred hinduism.

If u go through the world history, the first civilised and technologically superior religion is the sacred ancient hiduism. Hinduism has given many great sciences to the world. Radhekrishna!

Hinduism illustrates each and every principles with science. Every pooja has its own rituals and sciences. The design of every temple has its own architectural science in it. Every manthra has its own science.

Every ritual has a basic science. The important days which are celebrated in this hindu relegion are based on the movement of sun and moon{astronomy}. Radhekrishna! Likewise there are many sciences available in our ancient sacred hinduism. Radhekrishna!

Everyone must realise the real science in hinduism. Thats why we, radhekrishnasathsangam have started this blog. Many people have written about the science in hinduism. But the uniqueness in this website is, the articles are presented by a non-science student with the help of other sathsangam members.

This guy has got many good experiences after he started chanting. He is the true devotee of Poojyashree Shree Amma. He is much interested and careful in writing these articles. He is also enjoying the articles and realising the real science in hinduism. radhekrishna...

Dear Readers,

In our last article, we concluded with the topic on why the name Krishna has been mentioned time and again in all the articles of this blog.

The purpose of this blog was to tell our readers the way in which ‘Science’ and the ‘Hindu religion’ are related. Nowadays people who attain even basic levels of education start believing that everything that happens in this world has a scientific reason behind it. They feel that if anything is done without having a scientific reason then that thing should not be done.

In fact each and every ritual and the ways of living life that are prescribed in our Hindu dharma have a very definite logic behind them. The only fact is that because of ignorance, we people, the residents of ‘Hindustan’, have lost track of that invaluable knowledge which is the real treasure of our motherland ‘India’. One of the reasons for this can be attributed to the fact that the English ruled over our country for nearly a hundred and fifty years. But even then, they could not entirely wipe out our traditions and customs. Even then they have had some effect on our people and few aspects of the western culture can be seen today in the country. A simple example would be the clothing worn by the people nowadays. This problem is more intense as far as females are concerned. A fair percentage of females nowadays feel that the lesser clothes they wear the more attractive they would look. They have forgotten that exposing bodies is the fashion of the west whereas wearing clothes adequate to cover the body has been the ornament of our country since time immemorial. Another reason for people having forgotten the hindu traditions is that earlier this knowledge was imparted in schools by the rishis who were well versed in it. But nowadays whatever is being taught in schools are pure academics. This is not incorrect but it is insufficient. Students along with learning mathematics, history and geography etc. also must be taught about the ‘Hindu dharma’.

This would include stories of great personalities like prahalad, dhruva etc who showed to the world the method of doing bhakti. They achieved the real purpose of the human life i.e. salvation in such a small age! Children need to learn to do bhakti and know about Bhagawan during their childhood itself. This is because this is the age when anything and everything can be learnt easily. And ‘the science of the self is the most important among all the sciences’ was told by Lord Krishna in the Bhagawat Gita. So learning this science is more important than learning any other science. But the exact reverse is happening. The children learn all other sciences except this all-important science.

People who feel that there is no science behind the methodologies of Hindu dharma are ignorant. They lack the knowledge about the subtlety of Hinduism.

As life has been made physically comfortable and comparatively effortless by modern inventions, the ease-loving man is prone to disregard the place of religion in his life and exalt the values of materialistic civilization. But events have always disclosed the unreliability of the purely objective views and methods of physical science, the experience of man that he is not really happier, and the world is not in fact better, even after his arduous attempts at extracting out of external nature its latent resources in order to utilize them for his own purposes. Where is satisfaction, where is happiness, and where is peace then?

Some wise scientists are fully conscious now of the limitations of science, and of its methods, in the investigation of phenomena in planes of subtler states of matter. The reality of the spiritual world is closed book to them. They are equally conscious of the limitations of science in the regeneration of unregenerate human nature, and in the attainment of the Supreme Good or Eternal Bliss, the summum bonum of life.

Scientists are very, very busy in studying the external world. They have entirely forgotten to study the internal world. Science gives you knowledge only of the phenomenal appearances, and not of the Reality behind them. Science has not been able to solve the ultimate questions: What is the ultimate stuff of the world? Who am I? What is the ultimate truth?

Science tells us that the ultimate goal of everything is unknown, and unknowable. But, Srimad Bhagavatham teaches that the ultimate goal is Brahman or the Infinite, and that It can be realized through hearing, reflection and meditation.

Science has got its limitations. Science does not have an instrument by which they could just collect the super sensual or spiritual data, or those divine facts which exist in a subtle form but which we cannot see. True experiences include the experiences of the three states, namely, the waking, dream and deep sleep states.

The soul is beyond the realm of physical science. The soul is beyond the reach of material science. Man is a soul, wearing the physical body. The soul is extremely subtle. It is subtler than ether, mind and energy. Consciousness and intelligence are of the soul, and not of the body. Consciousness is evidence of the existence of the soul. The soul is the immortal part of man.

Science is a systematic study of facts. It tries to reduce observations or observed facts into a system. In order that the fact may be valid for science, it must be perceptible to the senses. Sensing is false knowledge. Intuition is right knowledge. Intuitive knowledge alone is the highest knowledge. It is imperishable, infinite knowledge of Truth.

Both religion and science are engaged in the search for Truth. Their attitudes are essentially the same. But the fields of applications vary. Raja-Yoga described in Bhagavatham is an exact science. Its methods are very scientific. A scientist is an external Raja Yogi. Hindu Rishis, seers and sages have recognized the harmonious relation between religion and science. The divorce of science from religion is the cause of confusion and conflict. Science is religion as applied to the investigation of Truth in the finite nature outside - the object. Religion is science as applied to the realization of the Infinite, the Brahman, the Truth that underlies all objects - the Subject.

Science interprets on the phenomenal plane the One as energy. Religion interprets the One as the Self, "the Atman". Science analyzes, classifies and explains phenomena. But Brahma-vidya (divine knowledge) teaches you to transcend phenomena and attain immortality.

The scientific and the religious approaches to Truth are really complementary, and not contradictory. Religion and science are the twin-brothers. They should help mutually and harmoniously to search Truth and live the life of Truth here.

Science has to do with facts; religion with values. Where science ends, religion begins. A close study of the observations and revelations of science brings a man nearer to God. Who gave power to electrons? What is at the bottom of these electrons? What is that power that has combined four parts of nitrogen and one part of oxygen? Who has framed the laws of nature? Nature is blind. What is that intelligence that moves nature? A study of the physical forces and the physical laws, an understanding of the mental forces and the mental laws, are not sufficient to make us perfect. We should have a thorough knowledge and realization of the substratum that lies hidden behind these names and forms and all physical and mental phenomena. Then only we will become perfect masters or full-blown adepts or Arhatas or Buddhas.

Mind and intellect are finite instruments. They cannot realize the infinite Reality. But, they are a means. When the intellect has passed through the various stages of reasoning, and when it has been completely purified, then revelation dawns. True religion begins where the intellect ends.

Let it not be thought that religion is dogmatic, otherworldly, a pet tradition of blind believers or irrational emotionalists. Religion is the most rational science, the science of life itself, the science of man as he essentially is, not merely as he presumes himself to be. The basis for all the secular sciences is Brahma-vidya or the Adhyatmic science (i.e. spirituality). Brahma-vidya is the foremost among all sciences, because by it one attains immortality. Secular experiences are partial, while spiritual experiences is the experience-whole. If you know this supreme science of Brahma-vidya through direct intuition, you will have knowledge of all otherworldly sciences; just as you will have knowledge of all articles made of clay, if you have knowledge of clay itself. You cannot learn this Science of sciences in any university. Matter cannot be totally ignored; but matter should be subordinated to spirit. Science should be subordinate to Brahma-vidya. Science cannot be the be-all and end-all. If you end your life in the laboratory alone, you cannot enjoy the eternal bliss of the Soul. You cannot attain the supreme wisdom, which can free you from births and deaths. Science cannot give you salvation.

Those persons who are educated with specializations in one of the several sciences like physics, chemistry and astronomy etc. feel very difficult to digest the concept that science has limitations and that it cannot provide reasoning for everything. However they have to finally accept this fact. Questions like ‘is it possible for science to bring life back in a small ‘dead’ mosquito?’ show the helplessness of science.

However all this should not be interpreted as a discouragement to people to learn science. It is not wrong to learn the various sciences. However, along with this, it is also important to learn the most important science, i.e. the science of the self (atman).

Why the name Krishna?

Dear Readers,

After knowing about the various divine manifestations of Lord Shri Krishna, now there is no doubt left that He is indeed the Supreme Personality of Godhead. How beautifully Lord Krishna mentions each and every category of living and non-living entities as also abstract qualities! And amongst those He says that the most important part of that category is He Himself. The thing worth noting though is that such an open claim has never been made by anyone else ever.

In this article lets have a look at a few other shloka’s from the Bhagwad Gita which also indicate the fact of Lord Krishna’s supremacy.

In the eighth chapter of Srimad Bhagwad Gita, Lord Shri Krishna teaches the reason for the return to Samsara of those aspirants for Aisvarya (prosperity) and for the non-return to Samsara of those who have reached the Lord i.e. Him:

AaBrahmaBhuvannaloka: punaravartinOarjuna
Mamupaetya tu kauntheya punarjanma na vidyathe

Chapter 8 verse 16

Another example glorifying the Supremacy of Lord Krishna!!

Meaning: In this verse Lord Krishna says, All the worlds, from the realm of Brahma included in the Brahmananda (cosmic sphere), are spheres in which experiences conferring Aisvarya (prosperity and power) can be obtained. But they are destructible and those who attain them are subject to return. Therefore destruction i.e. return to this world by the way of rebirth and death again is unavoidable for the aspirants of Aisvarya, as the regions where it is attained perish. On the contrary there is no rebirth to those who attain Me, the Omniscient, who has true resolves, whose sport is creation, sustentation and dissolution of the entire universe, who is supremely compassionate and who is always of the same form. For these reasons there is no destruction in the case of those who attain Me.

Here indirectly, Lord Krishna explains that apart from Him, everyone and everything is subject to destruction at His mere will. Radhekrishna!!

He now elucidates the time-period settled by the Supreme Person’s will i.e. by Him in regard to the evolution and dissolution of the worlds upto the cosmic sphere of Brahma and of those who are within them.
SahasrayugaparyantamaharyadaBrahmaNo viduhu
raatrim yugasahasraantaam te aHoratravidO janaha

Those who know the duration of the day and night understand a day of Brahma to last for a thousand Yugas, and a night of Brahma to last for another thousand Yugas.

Chapter 8 verse 17

Meaning: These men who know the order of the day and night as established by My will in regard to all beings, beginning with man and ending with Brahma-they understand that what forms Brahma’s day is a unit comprising in it a thousand periods of four Yugas (Chatur-yugas) and a night is a unit of equal duration.


Avyaktadvanyaktayaha sarvaha prabhavantyaharagame
ratryagame praleeyante tatraivavyaktasangnyake

All the manifested entities come forth from the unmanifest (Avyakta) at the coming of the day of Brahma; at the coming of the night they are dissolved into the same, which is known also as the umanifest.

Chapter 8 verse 18

Meaning: Thus, at the dawn of a day of Brahma, the manifest entities existing in the three worlds, possessing body, senses, objects and places of enjoyment appear from the non-manifest (Avyakta), which is the condition of Brahma’s body in that state, and at the beginning of the night they are dissolved into the condition of the unevolved (Avyakta) which forms the body of Brahma then.


bhutagraamaha sa evayam bhutva bhutva praleeyate
ratryagamO avashaha parth prabhavatyaharagame

The same multitude of beings comes forth again and again irresistibly, and is dissolved at the coming of the night. And again it comes forth at the coming of the day.

Chapter 8 verse 19

Meaning: The same multitude of beings, controlled by Karma, evolves again and again, undergoing dissolution at the coming of the night. Again at the coming of the day it comes forth. Similarly, at the end of the life span of Brahma which consists of a hundred years of three hundred and sixty days each, each Bramha day being a thousand Chaturyugas, all the worlds including that of Brahma and Brahma himself dissolve into Me in accordance with the order thus described in the Srutis: ‘The earth is dissolved into the waters, the waters are dissolved into light’ etc., (Su.U.,2). The process of involution ends, after passing through all the other stages of dissolution, with the Avyakta, Akasa and Tamas. Therefore, for every other entity except Myself, origination and annihilation are unavoidable. So for those who seek Aisvarya (prosperity and power) birth and dissolution according to the above-mentioned time arrangement are unavoidable. But in the case of those who attain Me, there is no return again to Samasara.

(The immense duration of time, according to ancient thinkers, is as follows:
Chatur-yuga, or a unit of four yugas of Krta, Treta, Dvapara and Kali, has a cumulative duration of 4320000 human years. A thousand such periods constitute a daytime of Brahma and a similar period his night. Periodic creation and dissolution of the universe take place in these two periods respectively. One year of Brahma consists of 360 such diurnal periods. A Brahma has a life-span of 100 such years-i.e., 311,040,000,000,000
human years. At the end of it, there is a Mahapralaya, and a new Brahma comes into being. Time thus goes on endlessly.

parastasmaatu bhavO anyO avyaktO avyaktatsanatanaha
yaha sa sarveshu bhuteshu nashyatsu na vinashyati

There is, however, another non-manifest being than this non-manifest entity, which is eternal; this is not destroyed when all entities are destroyed.

Chapter 8 verse 20

avyaktOakshara ityuktastamaahu: paramaam gatim
yam prapya na nivatante taddhaam param mama

This has been called unmainfest (Avyakta) and imperishable (Aksara). This they say, is the highest goal . This is My highest abode, reaching which the selves do not return to Samasara.

Chapter 8 verse 21

Meaning: Superior, as an object of human end, to this unamanifest (Avyakta), which is inanimate Prakriti, there is another state of being, of a kind different from this, but also called Avyakta. It has only knowledge-form and is also unmanifest. It is the self, Atman. It is unmanifested because It cannot be apprehended by any means of knowledge (Pramanas). The meaning is that Its nature is unique and that It can be known only to Itself. That is it can be understood only vaguely in the ordinary ways of knowing. It is eternal, namely, ever-enduring, because It is not subject to origination and annihilation.

In the above paragraph, the features of the soul are described briefly by Lord Krishna. It is called Brahman in Hinduism. That, Krishna says is His highest abode.

Arjuna asks Lord Krishna during ‘Geeta upadesham’ to show him His cosmic form and to which Lord Krishna oblidges. The following is one verse in which Arjuna describes that cosmic form of Lord Krishna:

Pashyaami devanstva deva dehe
Sarvanstatha bHutavisheshasanghaan
Brahmanameesham kamalasanastha
Mrushishrava sarvaanugaanshrava deeptaan

I behold, O Lord, in Your body all the gods and all the diverse host of beings, Brahma. Shiva (Isa) who is in Brahma, the seers and the lustrous snakes.

Chapter 11 verse 15

Meaning: O Lord! I behold in Your body all gods and all classes of living beings as also Brahma, the four-faced ruler of the cosmic egg. So too Shiva (Isa) who is seated in the lotus-seated Brahma, meaning that Shiva abides by the directions of Brahma. So also all the seers of whom the divine seers are the foremost; and lustrous snakes like Vasuki, Taksaka etc.

This sentence is a good evidence to know that everyone and everything is within Lord Krishna.

With this we conclude our description of Lord Krishna’s supremacy. These were just a few verses from one scripture, namely, Bhagwad Gita glorifying Lord Krishna. The fact is that Lord Krishna has been glorified in many other scriptures of Hinduism. This is just a brief description of his supremacy.
